Beach Clean Up
Did you know a garbage truck worth of plastic is dumped in the ocean every minute? Our oceans are drowning in plastic. By 2050 there will be more plastic waste than fish in the ocean.
At sun moon rain, our mission is very clearly focussed on doing what we can to stop this plastic pollution by eliminating single-plastic use through our refillable products, bringing awareness to this crisis by bringing our community together for beach clean-ups.
Why Beach Clean-Ups Matter
Change begins at home, and to create an impact we need to individually make changes in ourselves in our lifestyle habits, starting in our home’s. The first step can be easily taken by just stopping the use of single-use plastics through which most of the world's plastic pollution is generated.
Beach clean-ups are essential to sun moon rain’s mission of promoting sustainability & protecting our oceans. As a brand committed to eco-friendly practices, sun moon rain believes that reducing waste starts with individual choices. By opting for refillable products and zero-waste alternatives, we can significantly minimize the amount of trash that ends up on our beaches. Our eco-friendly shop in Santa Monica offers a range of sustainable products designed to help you make more environmentally conscious decisions.
Beach clean-ups not only remove visible trash but also prevent microplastics from entering the ocean. These efforts create a ripple effect, inspiring others to reduce their waste and make more sustainable choices.
As such recently, our team at sun moon rain spearheaded by founder Shabnam Melwani, organized a beach clean-up at Santa Monica Ocean Park on Coastal Clean-Up Day. With the support of 236 dedicated volunteers from Heal The Bay and our community, we all came together to collect over 105.5 pounds of trash in just a few hours.
During our efforts, we witnessed firsthand the alarming accumulation of plastic waste, including bottles, straws, and food packaging, which pollutes our shorelines and poses a significant threat to marine life.
This initiative aligns perfectly with our brand values of sustainability and environmental responsibility, as we strive to eliminate single-use plastics from our oceans, waterways, and landfills.
During our beach clean-up at Santa Monica Ocean Park, we captured some incredible moments showcasing the dedication of our volunteers. Here are some key results from our efforts:
- Total Trash Collected: 105.5 pounds
- Number of Volunteers: 236
- Most Common Types of Waste Found:
- Single-use plastics (e.g., bottles, straws)
- Food wrappers
- Cigarette butts
- Styrofoam debris
This experience not only highlighted the persistent issue of plastic pollution on our coastlines but also reinforced our commitment to promoting sustainable alternatives. It was inspiring to see Gen Z & Gen Alpha kids join us—proof that the next generation is ready to protect the planet.
Our mission, "Positivity Over Plastic," was front and center as we worked to stop single-use plastics from polluting our oceans. This is just the beginning of our fight for a cleaner, plastic-free future.
